Nehanda Thom, MHC-LP

Bio

Nehanda earned her Master's degree from Nyack College and has many years of experience providing counseling services to a diverse range of populations including women, teens, college students, young adults, individuals struggling with addiction and homelessness, members of the BIPOC communities. Her clinical experience spans multiple settings, including working in private practice, homeless shelters, and inpatient and residential substance use treatment programs.

Nehanda utilizes humanistic and psychodynamic approaches, tailoring her work to meet each client’s unique needs. Nehanda prioritizes building strong rapport by creating a warm, comfortable environment, often incorporating humor and thoughtful self-disclosure when it supports the therapeutic process.

Nehanda's goal in treatment is to empower clients by helping them develop practical tools they can use outside of sessions, increase self-awareness and insight, and make meaningful changes in areas of their lives within their control. Nehanda is also committed to preparing clients for independence, with the ultimate aim of helping them feel confident in eventually concluding therapy.
